Frequently asked questions

How do I add hours and minutes?

Write each duration on its own line, for example 7:30, 8h15, and 45min. The tool adds them in minutes and shows the total: 16:30, or 16.50 h as a decimal. You don't convert anything first.

Which formats does it accept?

Hours with a colon (7:30), with "h" (8h15 or 8h 15m), minutes only (45min or 90min), and decimals (1.5). A number with no unit counts as hours, so "8" is 8 hours. You can mix formats in the same list.

How do I subtract hours?

Set the line to −. For example, 8:00 minus 1:15 is 6:45. If the total is negative, it shows with a minus sign, like −1:30.

Can the total go past 24 hours?

Yes. It doesn't roll over at midnight: 23:45 plus 0:30 is 24:15, and a 40-and-a-half-hour week shows as 40:30.

How do I convert hours to a decimal?

Divide the minutes by 60 and add them to the hours: 7:20 becomes 7.33 h and 8:15 becomes 8.25 h. The tool shows both. The amount uses the exact minutes, not the rounded decimal.

How is this different from the Work Hours Calculator?

The hours sum adds durations you already have. The Work Hours Calculator works out the day from clock-in, clock-out, and breaks. Both are free and don't ask you to sign up.
